As we enter 2023, there are three key trends to which business leaders and marketers should be paying attention. These trends are driven by changing consumer habits, advances in technology, and shifts in the business landscape, and they have the potential to shape the way we market products and services in the years to come.
- Using video: You might argue that this is not new. I’ve been banging on about video for years now. However, the difference now is that it’s no longer optional. Video is rapidly becoming the most effective way to reach and engage with audiences, especially as millennials start to form the majority of the workforce. Video allows marketers to tell a story, showcase products and services in a more interactive and immersive way, and connect with audiences in a way that written content simply can’t. Whether it’s short social media clips, longer form video explainers, or live streaming events, video is a powerful tool that should be a central part of any marketing strategy. The case is now compelling.
- AI: Artificial intelligence is already transforming the way we do business, and it’s only going to become more important in the coming years. This moment – the start of 2023 – marks an inflection point. AI-powered tools like ChatGPT and Jasper are becoming increasingly available, making it easier for marketers to automate tasks, analyze data, and personalize customer experiences. By leveraging AI, marketers can free up time and resources, allowing them to focus on more strategic and creative tasks. Watch this space; if you’ve been impressed by the AI tools you’ve seen in recent months, well, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
- Enabling customer self service: 75% of buyers and sellers say they now prefer digital self-serve and remote human engagement over face to face interactions – a sentiment that has steadily intensified even after lockdowns have ended. (Source: McKinsey and Company.) This trend is only going to continue in the coming years, as customers increasingly expect to be able to do things like place orders, track shipments, and access support resources online. Organisations need to make sure their websites and online platforms are optimized for self service, so customers can find the information and tools they need. This goes way beyond marketing; the trend towards online self service accelerated during the Covid crisis, and will continue to affect all departments.
Overall, these three trends – video, AI, and customer self service – are all set to be big for marketers (and for all aspects of business) in 2023. By keeping an eye on these trends and adapting their strategies accordingly, organisations can stay ahead of the curve and position themselves for success in the years to come.*
Exciting times.
